BronxMama was recently invited to see Cirque Du Soleil’s Banana Shpeel at the Beacon Theater. This show is the latest from producer extraordinaire “Marty Schmelky” and features a colorful array of slapstick comedy, eclectic dance and unique acrobatic acts. The larger-than-life personality presents the diverse talent he has gathered from around the world, as zany characters spread chaos throughout the theatre.
The show was hilarious, with amazing talent and comedy skits throughout. This is definitely a fun show to see when it’s date night for mom and dad, so make sure the babysitter is in place and enjoy a night out of the Bronx!

This summer, the Bronx River Art Center is offering a unique and FREE multi-media intensive art program for teens. The Art and Environmental Studies Teen Institute offers both expert arts instruction and a “green” component. The Summer Teen Institute is available to a maximum of 20 students and admission is by application only. At the end of the program, students will install their art in the beautiful Drew Gardens on the Bronx River and celebrate with a closing reception.
There is also a full schedule of regular fee-based classes for youth ages 7-18 and adults including Drawing and Painting, Ceramics, Cartooning, Portfolio Prep, and Digital Photography. Classes will run from July 5 to August 6. All classes are limited in size to facilitate instruction and attention. This is NOT “arts and crafts,” all students work in our professional studios with high-quality materials and practicing artist-instructors.
