If you’re lucky enough to have off this week with your children- but bummed about the rain today, you’re not alone. If you’ve decided to stay indoors, check out this site-http://recycledcrafts.craftgossip.com/. They feature all kinds of crafts and projects you can make from materials inside your house. There are even some stuff for the Oscars, Mardi Gras, and Easter up. So cool!
The UEC is a 10k race hosted by the Van Cortlandt Track Club that takes runners through all of the undiscovered trails through Van Cortlandt Park. This race is always fun and runners can expect to get a little muddy, with the odd stream crossing (log bridge optional) but it’s a great introduction to trail running! The race will be on April 3rd at 10:00 AM and will start at the Tortoise and the Hare statue in Van Cortlandt Park on Broadway (only steps from the 242nd St. stop on the #1 subway). You can register at the link below. Register soon as they expect to cap this race because the trails can’t accommodate too many runners. Fast runners with too many plastic trophies need not fear. Prizes are the best carrot cakes in the city, (from the famous www.lloydscarrotcake.com) given to top 3 places in all male and female age groups. See the website for more details and a video of last year’s race.

It’s almost the end of February and unfortunately a lot of New Years Resolutions have probably already been broken. Sometimes we take on something bigger than we can chew-so BronxMama wants to start with something small-that is actually pretty big! Join BronxMama in the 30 Day Water Challenge- for 30 days replace those sugary juice and sodas with water. To join the challenge, sign up here!
I know it’s hard to imagine your little one growing up and going to school-but when you live in New York City it’s easily something you think about from the day they are born-so being prepared is important. The NYC Department of Education has updated their site with some important dates for Pre-K registration. Check it out here. The Application period begins March 7th and there will be information sessions.
Another good site to check out is insideschools.org You can read reviews, see information on the schools, and find out what schools are around you by zip code, zone, borough, and more.
