With the sun pouring through my window, open a crack to the glorious – yes, glorious — winter gardens of Wave Hill beyond, I can’t think of a better outlet than creating a miniature, tabletop landscape, a promise of green to take me through the last few weeks of this cold, dormant season of the year, at one of our terrarium workshops Thursday and Saturday. (And I am thinking that the terrarium workshop Thursday will be a wonderful President’s Week activity.) Indoors, our winter workspace residency program has brought Glyndor Gallery to life, offering another naturally creative focus for artist and visitor. Once we hit February, winter begins to lose its shock value as Mother Nature helps us see that this, too, can be an industrious season. Take a leaf from artist Anne Percoco at the Family Art Project. Join Winter Workspace artist-in-residence Ruth Marshall for an intriguing afternoon knitting and purling in the gallery, in what is just the first of a number of workshops, tours and open-studio days with the artists in this program. While you’re here, take your family on a walk and see for yourselves the not-so-apparent busy-ness of the landscape and gardens this season. Continue reading
